Bone grafting for dental implants

After tooth loss, the jawbone can shrink. Grafting rebuilds bone and gum so an implant can be placed securely and look natural.

Overview

Making implants possible

Bone grafting restores the volume of bone needed to support an implant. It is often done alongside soft-tissue grafting for natural gum contours.

Chris has trained in advanced regeneration techniques in Italy, Germany and Spain, and plans grafts digitally from your CBCT.

Benefits

  • Makes implants possible where they otherwise were not
  • Better long-term support for implants
  • More natural gum contours
  • Planned precisely from a 3D CBCT scan

FAQs

Common questions

Can't see your question? Call 0191 549 8888.

Where does the graft material come from?

Usually a combination of your own bone and well-established graft materials. Chris will explain what is best for your case.

Is it painful?

It is done under local anaesthetic. Swelling and discomfort for a few days are normal and manageable.

How long before the implant can be placed?

Sometimes at the same time; for larger grafts, usually after 4 to 9 months of healing.

Can it be done at the same time as the implant?

Often, yes, for smaller grafts. Your CBCT will show what is possible.
